A New Website for the Chamber of Commerce of the Mastics & Shirley

Reading Time: 2 minutes
Being a member of a Chamber of Commerce is a good idea for any small business. It provides great networking opportunities as well as getting to contribute ideas on how to improve business in your area. Electric Bricks is currently a member of three Chambers: the Chamber of Commerce of the Moriches, the Greater Middle Country Chamber of Commerce, and the Chamber of Commerce of the Mastics & Shirley (board member).

We were both please and excited to be asked by the Mastic-Shirley Chamber to redesign their website and make it something that the membership could be proud of, as well as a tool to help give them more exposure. Here’s a quick tour.

You Need to Get Serious About Your Website

A Website Needs to be More Than Just a List of Services

Once upon a time, most websites were a just collection of simple pages that briefly described a business. There was typically a useless homepage, an about us page (that usually had a boring company history and maybe a photo of the owner), and a services or products page that was seldom more than a short list of the things the company could offer. 10 years ago that might have been fine. But today’s Internet user expects more. And if you’re not giving it to them then they will look somewhere else.

By today’s standards, the site was poorly laid out and looked dated, had cluttered and confusing navigation, and was all but unusable on a smartphone. But you may ask yourself, “if they’re so busy, who cares if their website gets old?” The answer to that question is simple – all of their current and future patients!

A Major Turning Point

Reading Time: 2 minutes
To my valued (and future) clients:

As many of you know, while I have always placed the highest priority on the work I do for my clients, Electric Bricks has been what could have been referred to as a “side business”. Very often I would ask my (very patient) clients to schedule phone calls and meetings to evening or weekend hours so that I could give them my undivided attention, rather than try to squeeze them in on my lunch break during normal business hours. In the more than eight years since I started Electric Bricks this has only rarely been an issue, yet it was still an inconvenience and I want to let you all know that I sincerely appreciate your willingness to accommodate my less than accommodating schedule.

Electric Bricks is growing. And growing fast! Thanks to you, our customers, we have outgrown our current hosting environment. As more and more new clients sign on with EB (6 in the past month!)… and the complexity and sophistication of existing clients’ sites continues to grow… and the technology continues to push the limits of computing hardware… we need to adapt and migrate to a more robust hosting solution.
