I Have No Idea What to Write About on My Blog!

Reading Time: 2 minutes

How many times have you said that? I’ve probably said it a hundred times. Blogging can be really hard for most of us. We all know how important it is for generating traffic to our site, but coming up with fresh ideas can be difficult. Google and the other search engines want a never-ending stream of fresh, original content but if you’re like me you feel like you’ve already said it all. What else is there to talk about? How do I keep coming up with new ideas for articles?

It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Reading Time: < 1 minute
Why? Because for a little over a week I get to bury my laptop at the bottom of my sock drawer and spend some quality time with my wife and kids. The holiday season is here once again and once again I’ll be taking a little time off. But first I want to say THANK YOU to all of my clients! 2013 was a very busy year with lots of new projects and lots of new sites. There were at least 3 major upgrades for WordPress and dozens of plugin updates. Thank you all for your business and I hope you all continue to prosper in the new year!

Thank You for Your Support in the T2T 5K!

Reading Time: < 1 minute
I want to extend my sincere thanks to everyone who supported me in the Tunnel to Towers 5K held on September 29th. It was a beautiful day and I was very happy to take part in (and finish!) such a wonderful event along with an estimated 30,000 other runners and walkers. Thanks to your contributions, my team raised $1,155 and helped push the fundraising total for the event to $1.4 million, beating the event organizers’ goal.

My clients are always asking me what are the best ways to improve their rankings in the search engines. How to get on page 1 of Google. Sadly, there is no silver bullet. No trick or easy answer that will get you to the top. But there are some things you can do to help your chances.

Tips for Choosing a Domain Name

Reading Time: 2 minutes
Choosing a domain name can be tough. Really tough. Everyone wants a short, accurate, memorable name that closely matches their actual business name, but that perfect combination may not always be available. And let’s not forget that you also want to get your domain with your preferred extension – .com or .net or .whatever. Most small businesses prefer .com, and for good reason. It is by far the most common with over 50% of all sites on the Internet using it. It’s also the one that people expect so it can be hard to swallow if you have to settle for something else. But it’s not the end of the world. Read on and you’ll see that even I learned this.

Tunnel to Towers 5K

Reading Time: 2 minutes

About two years ago I made the decision to try and lead a more healthy lifestyle. I’m in my forties and, while I’ve never had a weight problem, I knew I needed to pay closer attention to my health and if I was ever going to get started now was the time to do it. Eating better and regular exercise were at the core of what I wanted to do. My wife, a nutrition specialist and a “selectarian” (someone who eats primarily vegetables but also some fish and dairy), helped me to adjust my diet to include more whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. I also joined a gym. Part of my workout routine was running. I’ve always hated running. Having been a smoker in the past it really wasn’t anything I was especially good at. The first time I tried to run I think I made it to the end of my block before I had to turn around and pant all the way home. I went a little less than half a mile.

Getting My Google Analytics Certification

Reading Time: < 1 minute
I’m very excited to announce that I am enrolled in a Google Analytics Certification Training course scheduled for the latter half of this week. Wednesday, June 12th thru Friday the 14th I’ll be attending class at Cardinal Path Training in New York City. As you might expect, I will have limited availability to phone, text, and email. Should you need me, email will be the best option, but please be patient.

On the Road Again

Reading Time: < 1 minute
I will be traveling for business the week of May 13th and will have limited access to phone and email. As always, please know that I’m not ignoring you should you need to reach me. I’ll be attending a conference in Nashville and the schedule may not allow me to return messages quickly. If you need to reach me for an emergency I will do my best to help out in the evenings. I will, of course, get back to everyone the following week. You all know how to reach me but I would say email is your best bet as I may be able to fire off a quick response.

Thanks for your patience!

The folks at AboutUs.com published a great infographic last month on content marketing. They took the age-old journalistic approach of asking the questions Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How. This is a fun, easy-to-understand look at ways you can improve your own content marketing strategy. Be sure to read their blog post on the subject: Content Marketing: What Is It & Why Should I Do It?

BulletProof Security for EB WordPress Clients

Reading Time: < 1 minute
You may not be aware, but there have been a rash of new attacks on sites running WordPress. Recently, several sites I manage ( including my own!  😡  ) have been victims. Thankfully, nothing serious happened and no one lost any content or valuable information. In fact, I discovered the breaches and remedied the situation before anyone was aware there was even a problem. But it was a reminder for me about staying vigilant and looking for ways to further safeguard my clients’ websites. So, in addition to making some “under-the-hood” changes to all WordPress sites, I’ve also installed a special security plugin for all customers with a maintenance agreement called BulletProof Security.
