As a business owner, you probably wear many hats to keep your organization running smoothly. We understand that updating your website may not be the first thing on your mind. However, your website can be one of your most effective selling tools.
At Electric Bricks, our team of web designers is well versed in helping you to review every aspect of your current website and make recommendations for improvement. Our design and development process is engineered to not only build you a beautiful, unique site, but to ensure that the marketing message is clear and the functionality needed for you to do business is there. Here’s a list of topics that we can cover with you:
Tabs – What content is covered/featured
The first place we start is to perform an overall audit of your site to ensure that the different tabs are still relevant and make suggestions of new ones to add or even old ones that need to be replaced. For instance, if your company has grown, you may now want to add a tab to highlight your staff, or add a blog section to offer customers new news about your brand.
Fonts/Colors
Believe it or not, what colors and copy fonts you use can make a dramatic difference in the look and feel of your site. Using old fonts or dull colors can project an outdated look, even if you may be offering up-to-date information. One of the biggest mistakes that can be seen on some sites is the use of too many different sizes of typeface which can result in a very disjointed look and make it harder to read what is being presented.

Photos
Don’t underestimate the importance of having the right photos on your site. Replacing outdated photos is one of the quickest and least expensive ways to update your site in the eyes of your customers. Using the right photo to compliment the accompanying descriptive copy is a sure way to entice the reader to want to learn more.
Descriptions
Is your site too copy heavy? Gone are the days when readers had longer attention spans and wanted to learn as much as possible about a product or service. Now people want very succinct descriptions of what makes your brand stand apart from others.
Social Media
Where do your customers like to spend their time? Think of your website as a launching pad for your customers to learn as much as possible about what you have to offer. At a minimum you should offer links to your company’s Instagram, LinkedIn and FaceBook platforms (if applicable) where they can gain much more in-depth knowledge about your products. You actually have to also consider the opposite scenario, if you are not keeping these social media platforms with new posts or content, it could work against you and reinforce that your company is not worried about looking current. If that is the case, it’s better to remove the icon and link on your website.
Contact info
Visit the Contact page of a few websites and you will see that the available contact information for each can vary greatly. What’s important is to consider what works best for you and your customer. If you are too short staffed to offer a telephone number, perhaps having a form for people to submit would work better for your needs. The bottom line, make sure that people are confident that they can reach you or this is an area where a competitor will quickly take advantage.
Take a Look at Your Competitors
If you are going to take the time and energy to refresh your website, don’t forget to take a look at what others in your industry are highlighting on their website and what makes them unique. By doing so, it will provide you with a much needed impetus to update your website to help make your brand as current and attractive as possible.
