Website Management Quick Tip #2: 5 Easy Small Business Blog Topics

Reading Time: 2 minutes

When we start working with a new client, the topic of having a blog or company news section on the new website always comes up. Almost without fail, the first question the client asks is “What am I going to blog about?” It’s a great question and actually surprisingly easy to answer. Every small business owner has lots they can talk about if they just take a minute to think about it. Here are just a few ideas.

Five Simple Blog Ideas for Your Small Business Website

#1: New Products or Services

One of the most obvious topics for any small business is letting customers know of any new services that you might be offering or any new or improved products. Customers (and potential customers) like seeing the companies they do business with stay up to date with the latest innovations.

#2: Upcoming Events or Trade Shows

Many small companies get a booth in local business showcases or industry trade shows. This is a very worthwhile topic and you should let the world know. It looks good when companies make the effort to get themselves out there and show off their brand and you shouldn’t miss the opportunity to mention it on your website.

In fact, Electric Bricks does this all the time. We recently attended the 14th Annual Building Business In Brookhaven Expo and made sure to let everyone know we had a booth.

#3: New Hires or Personnel Changes

Are you getting busier and have begun staffing up? Customers should know this. It shows that you’re growing and strong. A great reason to keep doing business with you.

Maybe you just promoted someone to project manager or up some other step on your company ladder. Taking a quick head shot and giving that employee a shout-out on the company blog is a great way to help boost moral, but also shows the world you care about the growth of your employees.

#4: New Equipment

If you recently got a new piece of equipment, or even a new company vehicle, that’s a great thing to mention. Once again, it illustrates growth and progress. Anything that shows your company moving in the right direction is worth talking about.

#5: Company Milestones

I’m always surprised to find out how long some small businesses have been around. They just don’t mention it enough. Even if you’ve only been in business for a few years that’s still worth celebrating. As any Long Island business owner will tell you (or anywhere else for that matter!) running a company is full of challenges and every year is proof that you’re doing something right. Make sure your customers know.

Keep It Simple

We understand that you’re trying to run a business so the thing to remember when writing these blog posts is to not overdo it. Keep them short and to the point. This is a good idea for two reasons:

  1. You don’t want to get overwhelmed with a big writing assignment
  2. Most people simply don’t want to read a long story – they just want a quick update

And be sure to use the “Blog First” Social Media Strategy we wrote about in our first Website Management Quick Tip. This way you get your message out to as many people as possible all while driving traffic back to your website.
